Our Story
Gracious Living was founded in 2008 to fill a gap in Connecticut's home care landscape. Families needed an agency that treated caregiving as a profession, not just a task, and that treated caregivers as skilled professionals, not just labor.
What began as one woman's decades of hands-on caregiving has grown, over more than fifteen years, into a trusted resource for families across New Haven, Fairfield, and Litchfield counties, families navigating private pay, the Connecticut Home Care Program, long-term care insurance, and veterans' benefits, all while receiving the same personal, dignified care Gracious Living was built on from the very beginning.

Doris Jones Founder & CEO, Gracious Living LLC
Caring for Others Has Never Been a Job. It Has Always Been Doris's Calling.
Doris Jones has dedicated nearly five decades to serving older adults and their families with compassion, dignity, and unwavering commitment. A Certified Nurse's Aide since 1977, Doris spent 27 years working in a convalescent home, where she discovered that exceptional care is built on far more than completing daily tasks. It is built on listening, earning trust, showing up consistently, and treating every person as if they were family.
Those values became the foundation of Gracious Living.
When Doris founded Gracious Living, many of the families she had cared for throughout her career chose to follow her because they trusted not only her experience, but also her heart. Over the years, those same families have continued to call on Gracious Living to care for parents, spouses, siblings, and other loved ones, often across multiple generations.
The relationships Doris builds rarely end when care ends. Families continue to stay connected because they know she genuinely cares about their well-being. Many have trusted her during some of life's most important moments, asking her to help navigate difficult transitions, support important family decisions, and remain a trusted source of guidance long after services have concluded. That lasting trust is the greatest reflection of the care she provides.
For Doris, every client deserves to feel safe, respected, heard, and protected. She believes no older adult should ever experience neglect, loneliness, or abuse, and she has built Gracious Living around that simple belief. Every caregiver is selected not only for their skills, but for their compassion, integrity, professionalism, and commitment to treating every client with dignity and respect.
Today, Gracious Living continues to reflect the values Doris has lived every day for nearly 50 years: compassion, professionalism, trust, love, joy, and faith. These are more than words. They are the principles that guide every visit, every relationship, and every family we are honored to serve.
